Beaches of Guardamar del Segura: Dunes, Pine Forest and Blue Flags
The beaches of Guardamar del Segura are not simply a strip of sand by the sea. They are a unique phenomenon on Spain's entire Mediterranean coast: wide golden dunes merging into a pine forest that reaches right to the shore. No other town on the Costa Blanca can offer anything like it.
Our Granfield Estate team lives and works in this area. We visit these beaches ourselves — in the morning before work or in the evening after viewings. We know where the best swimming spot is for families, where to catch the most beautiful sunset, and where to find peace even in the middle of August.
This article is a complete guide to every beach in Guardamar — from the lively town centre beach to the wild stretches in the south.
Guardamar beach overview
Guardamar del Segura's coastline stretches for approximately 11 kilometres. Every beach is sandy, with fine golden sand. The beach strip is 50 to 100 metres wide, making them some of the widest on the Costa Blanca.
The defining feature is the pine forest that borders the beach zone directly. It creates natural shade, wind protection and a unique atmosphere: you sunbathe on the sand while 30 metres behind you stands a pine woodland alive with birdsong.

Playa Centro: the main town beach
Guardamar's central beach sits directly opposite the promenade (Paseo Marítimo). It is approximately 800 metres long and up to 80 metres wide. Awarded the Blue Flag — a mark of water quality and infrastructure standards.
Facilities: lifeguards (June–September), showers, toilets, sunbed and parasol hire, beach bars (chiringuitos), disabled access, children's play area. Promenade restaurants and cafés are a 2-minute walk away.
The entry into the water is gentle with depth increasing gradually — ideal for children and older swimmers. The seabed is clean sand with no rocks.
Playa del Moncayo: the most popular
A continuation of the central beach to the south. This is where the dunes and pine forest nature park begins — the trees come almost to the edge of the sand. Blue Flag. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire Costa Blanca.
Facilities match the central beach: lifeguards, showers, hire, chiringuitos. Additionally — sports courts (volleyball, football) and a water-sports zone.
At the peak of the season (July–August), Moncayo is Guardamar's busiest beach. But even at its most crowded it is significantly less packed than the beaches of Torrevieja or Benidorm — the sheer width of the sand makes the difference.
Playa de la Roqueta: nature meets comfort
A long (1,200 m) beach south of Moncayo. The pine forest is denser here and the beach wider. Blue Flag. Less crowded than Moncayo but with adequate facilities: lifeguards, showers, hire.
Roqueta is the choice for those who want nature without giving up all conveniences. It is a great spot for a morning run along the shore, an afternoon swim and an evening sunset. Parking is on a dirt area by the forest.
Playa de los Tusales: wild beach with dunes
Tusales marks the start of the truly wild coastline. A kilometre and a half of sand surrounded by dunes and pine forest. There are no lifeguards, sunbeds or bars here. Just sand, sea, forest and silence.
The Tusales dunes are part of the Dunas de Guardamar nature reserve. This is a protected area where construction is prohibited. That is why the pristine landscape has been preserved — something you will not find anywhere else on the urbanised coast.
Access: on foot through the forest from the car park (10–15 minutes) or along the shoreline from Roqueta. Bring water and a sunshade — there are no facilities.
Playa de los Viveros and Playa Babilonia: complete seclusion
Guardamar's southernmost beaches, bordering La Mata. Viveros (1,500 m) and Babilonia (1,000 m) are entirely wild stretches with no facilities whatsoever. Babilonia is an unofficial naturist beach.
Here you can walk a kilometre along the shore without meeting a single person — even in August. For those who value absolute peace and untouched nature. The La Mata beach with its Blue Flag is just a short walk further south.
Practical tips
When is the best time to swim?
The swimming season in Guardamar runs from May to October. Water temperature: May 18–20°C, June 22–24°C, July–August 25–27°C, September 23–25°C, October 20–22°C. The most comfortable water is from mid-June to late September.
Wind and waves
Guardamar is shielded from northerly winds by the pine forest. The prevailing wind is from the south and south-east. On windy days waves can build, but generally the sea is calmer here than on the exposed beaches of Torrevieja. For more coastal options, see our guide to the beaches of Orihuela Costa.
Parking
At the central beach and Moncayo — free car parks (fill up quickly in season). At Roqueta and Tusales — dirt parking areas by the forest. At the wild beaches parking is very limited — walking is the better option.
Property near the beach
Beach proximity is the number one factor when choosing property in Guardamar. Apartments within walking distance of the sea (up to 10 minutes) cost 15–25% more, but they also let significantly faster. For those considering buying property in Guardamar, proximity to the beach is a key driver of long-term value.
Guardamar's combination of nature, beaches and affordability makes it an attractive location for rental investment. Our team at Granfield Estate lives in this area and knows every complex near the beach. If proximity to the sea matters to you, get in touch and we will find options that match your budget and expectations.

Frequently asked questions
Which Guardamar beach is best for families with children?
Playa Centro and Playa del Moncayo are the best choices for families. Gentle entry into the water, fine sand, lifeguards, children's areas, nearby restaurants and toilets. The width of the beach gives children plenty of room to play away from the water.
Can I bring my dog to the beach in Guardamar?
Dogs are not allowed on the main beaches (Centro, Moncayo, Roqueta) from June to September. Outside that period they are permitted. On the wild beaches (Tusales, Viveros, Babilonia) there are no practical restrictions, though formally the same rules apply.
Is there a nudist beach in Guardamar?
Yes, Playa Babilonia in the south of Guardamar is an unofficial naturist beach. Completely wild, with no facilities, surrounded by dunes and forest.
When are the beaches least crowded?
The quietest periods are May, the first half of June, and September–October. The water is already (or still) warm, but there are far fewer visitors. Even in July–August the wild beaches (Tusales, Viveros) remain uncrowded.
